Large Type Piece Stem With Right Crossbar

547/686

𜸨 is the right-crossbar piece for building oversized letters on HP terminals. The parts form large headlines in a normal character grid.

Text symbol

What 𜸨 means

It forms a stroke in an oversized terminal letter. HP's 2640 terminal used the large type set for headlines by 1975. Each letter used nine character cells in a three-by-three grid; this piece adds a stem and rightward bar. A 2021 Unicode proposal aimed to preserve old terminal text and help emulators recreate its displays.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜸨 show as a box?

It can be a font issue: the font or app may lack this character and show a missing-glyph box. To build a large letter, use a font with all pieces and equal-width cells so their strokes line up.
