What 𛋭 means
It writes a spoken syllable, not a fixed word. Its Jiangyong reading is spelled tciong44; context identifies the word.
How did Nüshu develop?
Women used it to write local speech. Nüshu grew from Chinese character forms adapted for Jiangyong speech. Rural women with little access to formal Chinese literacy used it for poems, songs, letters to sworn sisters (chosen-sister companions) and third-day wedding books given to brides three days after marriage. A bronze coin from the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, a rebel government in China, dated 1851–1864, is the oldest known artifact; the first written report on the script dates to 1933.
The script later gained a preservation role: China registered it as documentary heritage in 2002 and national intangible cultural heritage in 2006.
