What } means
It closes the block that { opened. JavaScript wraps grouped statements in the pair, CSS ends a declaration block with it, JSON ends an object with it. The character does no work alone; all of its meaning is borrowed from its partner.
Nesting is where it bites. The parser matches your closing brace to the nearest still-open one, so a single missing or spare brace does not fail on that line — it silently reassigns every block below it and reports an error somewhere else entirely.
Same brace, different contents, different thing
The stuff inside decides what the pair is. Python reads colon-separated entries as a dictionary and bare comma-separated values as a set, and the empty pair {} is a dictionary, never an empty set. Shell braces expand lists; PowerShell braces hold a script block.
LaTeX is the odd one out: braces are grouping syntax there, so typing a bare closing brace ends a group instead of printing a curly bracket. Write \} when you want the visible character.
Purely technical. In a chat message it signals pasted code, markup, or a template placeholder.
A full-width } or a mismatched brace breaks code far from where you typed it.

3right curly bracket latex
Use `\}`. A bare brace is grouping syntax in LaTeX, so it disappears from the output and quietly closes whatever group was open.
Why does my code fail on a line with no obvious mistake?
Usually an unbalanced brace earlier. The parser matched a `}` to the wrong `{`, so the error surfaces below the real problem. Re-indent the file and the gap shows up.
Is a curly bracket the same as a brace?
Yes. "Brace" is the everyday name, "curly bracket" the formal one; both mean this character.

A visible symbol can contain several code points. JS .length counts UTF-16 units; UTF-8 counts bytes.
