separated block sextant-124

Separated Block Sextant-124

𜹛 is one tile in a text-screen mosaic for drawing low-resolution pictures. Its six-cell pattern leaves narrow gaps around the lit patches. Arrange matching tiles in a grid to extend the image.

What 𜹛 means

It lights cells 1, 2 and 4 of a 2×3 tile.

Cells 1 and 2 fill the top row; cell 4 fills the middle-right. Matching tiles form simple screen pictures.

Why are the mosaic cells separated?

The gaps preserve Teletext’s separated-mosaic mode.

British Teletext, an information service for analog TVs, began in the early 1970s and carried text and simple block graphics. ETSI specifies the separated mode in 2003.

A 2021 Unicode proposal sought distinct characters so emulators and existing software could preserve the gaps.

Why does 𜹛 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
