separated block sextant-16

Separated Block Sextant-16

620/686

𜹱 is a two-cell tile in a six-part mosaic, made for low-resolution graphics. Teletext used these block patterns to build pictures inside TV text pages. The thin gaps belong to the character's design; they are not spacing added by the app.

What 𜹱 means

The digits mark which cells are filled. A sextant here is a six-cell tile arranged in two columns and three rows: positions 1 and 6 are the upper-left and lower-right cells. Its separated style draws each cell as an inset square.

Teletext was a TV service for broadcasting pages of text and simple graphics. British Teletext used 23 mosaic blocks by the early 1970s; a 1974 specification names separated mode for these tiles.

Unicode 16.0 encoded the separated forms to help teletext emulators and older software that had stored them in private-use codes. These codes are assigned by individual systems, so the same code can mean different things in different programs; a standard character keeps the pattern stable between compatible text apps.

A specialist graphic tile for old Teletext pages and their emulators.

Why does it show as a box?

A box means the active font or fallback stack cannot draw it. Cascadia Code 2404.23 added the separated sextants, including this one; other fonts may support it too.
