What ภ means
At a syllable's end, ภ sounds like p without the puff. As an initial, its low consonant class helps determine the syllable's pitch pattern, or tone.
ภ preserves an older consonant, written bh in Latin letters, in borrowings from Pali and Sanskrit, ancient Indian languages.
Thai writing evolved from India's Brahmi through Pallava, Mon and Khmer traditions. Its Pallava roots reach the 9th century. The Ram Khamhaeng stone inscription, conventionally dated 1292, records royal and Buddhist life in the Sukhothai kingdom in early Thai script; letterforms later changed.
