What ๖ means
It marks six. In Thai, the spoken word for six is หก. In a decimal number, its position tells how much it adds to the total; its outline comes from the Thai font in use.
Early inscriptions in what is now Thailand show forms resembling Pallava, an older South Indian script, from the 4th–6th centuries CE. Thai writing later developed with Khmer influence; Lao writing is related. Sukhothai, an early Thai kingdom, left inscriptions from the late 13th century that attest an early Thai script.
Thai numerals give documents a formal tone. A 2 May 2000 resolution promoted them for government work but allowed Arabic digits for finance and analysis.
