upper left quadrant chess bishop

Upper-left Chess Bishop Quadrant

𜳆 is the upper-left quarter of a chess-bishop picture, not a complete piece or move. It came from a game-character set on Sharp’s MZ-700 home computer; a font without the glyph may show a box.

What 𜳆 means

It is one tile from a four-character picture. Released in 1982, the Sharp MZ-700’s European alternate display set supplied game art; four screen cells formed a chess piece. Japanese MZ versions used a different table.

Programs selected these pictures in screen memory instead of typing them as ordinary text. Unicode preserves the fragment as a standalone text character.

Why does 𜳆 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
