upper left quadrant chess knight

Chess Knight, Upper-Left Quadrant

203/686

𜳊 is the upper-left tile of a chess-knight picture; alone, it is a fragment. It comes from the European screen set of Sharp’s MZ-700 home computer.

Text symbol

What 𜳊 means

It let a text screen build a larger picture from tiles.

The 1982 Sharp MZ-700 home computer built pictures from preset screen cells instead of freely drawn pixels. Its European alternate set split chess pieces across four screen cells. Unicode preserves this exact tile as a character of its own.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜳊 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
