What means
One corner of a chess knight split across four character cells.
Sharp MZ home computers had a European alternate character set, a roster of extra display symbols for that version of the machines. This glyph is the upper-right quarter of the knight picture; its matching corners fit together in a 2×2 grid.
The split let a text screen assemble a larger picture from ordinary character cells. Unicode preserves the old screen graphic as text for compatibility.
Why does the Sharp MZ knight show as a box?
The font may not contain this glyph.
Unicode characters are not included in every font. Cascadia Code added support for quadrant and other legacy-computing symbols in release 2404.03; a different font may still lack this one.

A box usually means the font lacks this glyph; the text can still contain the right character.
