What ⭒ means
It is one of several five-pointed star shapes. For mathematical typesetting, Unicode’s size guide groups five-pointed stars by size: ⭑ is filled, while ⭐ and ☆ are larger white forms. Font design can make those size differences less obvious.

1Why does ⭒ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
