What ꏠ means
It represents a syllable, not a complete word. In standardized Liangshan Yi, jit is the romanized label for its sound-and-tone pattern; the final t marks a high-level tone, a pitch held high. The label identifies a syllable, not its translation. To understand a word containing ꏠ, read the whole Yi word or sentence.
That value belongs to the standardized Liangshan system. Older and regional Yi writing traditions can use different graphs and sound values, so recognizing the Yi script family does not guarantee that an older manuscript uses jit for this shape.
How did Yi writing become standardized?
The Liangshan standard recast older Yi traditions as a syllabary. Among the earliest reliably dated surviving Yi-script examples are the Chenghua Bell Inscriptions, writing engraved on a bell in Guizhou in the 15th century. Claims about a single origin and proposed links to other scripts remain debated. Yi ritual specialists called bimo copied traditional forms in scriptures and records on ritual, history, medicine, astrology, and family genealogies.
In 1974, a Liangshan syllabary—a writing system whose signs represent syllables—was devised and officially promulgated in 1980 to improve literacy. The standard drew on Liangshan Yi forms and brought syllable-based writing into education and everyday work. It did not replace every regional tradition; Yi writing is distinct from Han Chinese writing.
Specialized writing-system text; in ordinary chat, it reads as a character to identify or explain, not as casual emoji slang.
Alone, it can look decorative; it has no standard emoji-reaction meaning.
