What 𜴿 means

A 2×4 tile with cells 2, 4, and 7 filled.

Its eight cells sit in two columns and four rows; lined up, the tiles draw low-resolution pictures in text.

How did octants work on Kaypro?

They let character-only computers draw pixel pictures.

In 1984, Kaypro CP/M computers used 2×4 character cells for graphics. A drawing program called SCS-Draw switched their eight parts on or off to build images.

“Octant” extends “quadrant” (four parts) and “sextant” (six) to eight; Unicode carries the mosaic style into text-mode graphics.
