What 𐵈 means

It represents the number eight in Garay.

Garay was created by Assane Faye for Wolof in Senegal and first appeared in print in January 1961. Its forms were designed to be simpler for readers familiar with Arabic.

As of 2026, Garay has a small user community alongside the official Latin-script writing of Wolof and Wolofal, an Arabic-based way to write the language. Documented uses include textbooks, folktales, maps, adult literacy materials, and Qur’an translations.

This glyph marks a number written in Garay rather than in the familiar 0–9 digits.

Do not reverse the digits just because Garay text runs right to left.

Why does 𐵈 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
