What was Khitan small script made for?
It was made to write the Khitan language.
Khitan Small Script was created about 925 CE by Yelü Diela to write the Khitan language. Uyghur script is said to have inspired it, though visible similarities are few. It was used under Liao, Qara Khitai (Western Liao), and Jin. A 2017 catalogue’s earliest entry is a 1053 tomb epitaph. Most surviving texts are tomb epitaphs; others appear on monuments, bronze mirrors, tallies, non-circulating coins, and one jade cup. During Jin rule, Jurchen scripts borrowed and adapted Khitan forms.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘯆 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
