What 𘯝 means
It has an indexed Khitan reading, not an English translation. One scholarly index lists bải for it. This form uses Latin letters to represent Khitan sounds. The script also uses signs for whole words, while sound signs often join into word clusters.
Tradition credits Liao scholar Yelü Diela with creating the script around 925 to write Khitan. A 2026 study argues it may have been systematized later, under Liao Emperor Shengzong; the oldest securely dated surviving inscription is a stone tomb text from 1051. Its shapes drew on Chinese characters, while its sound system drew on Uyghur writing.
It wrote Khitan through the Liao, Qara Khitai (Western Liao), and Jin periods; Jurchen writers later adapted both Khitan scripts. Khitan words could be set in vertical clusters or horizontal lines; a character-by-character display can hide their grouping.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘯝 show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
