What 𘲏 means
It is a Khitan sign; its role depends on context.
Khitan Small Script uses logograms (whole-word signs) and phonograms (sound signs). Phonograms cluster into words, so a lone glyph may need nearby signs for its reading.
Historical writing ran vertically; software needs Khitan-specific layout rules to arrange clusters on a modern horizontal line.
When did Khitan Small Script take shape?
Traditional accounts say 924 or 925; the date remains disputed.
Unicode credits Yelü Diela and Chinese forms, with reported Uyghur inspiration. A 2026 Mongolian Studies article argues for later standardization: its earliest securely dated text is a 1051 epitaph, and a Khitan letter unread at Goryeo court dates to 1011.
Khitan Small Script remained in use under the Liao, Qara Khitai, and Jin dynasties and empire. Jurchen writing later adapted Khitan models.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘲏 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
