separated block sextant-125

Separated Block Sextant-125

𜹣 is a Teletext mosaic tile for drawing pictures from text cells. Its 1-2-5 pattern fills three of six positions, with small background gaps between them. That spacing defines the separated style.

What 𜹣 means

The filled cells are upper left, upper right, and lower left. Teletext numbers its 2 × 3 mosaic across the rows: 1–2 at the top, 3–4 in the middle, and 5–6 at the bottom.

Teletext began in the UK as a broadcast information service in the early 1970s. Its mosaic mode let designers make simple graphics, such as maps, from character cells. In separated mode, each filled cell has a narrow border of background. Unicode later encoded the separated forms so emulators and existing software could preserve this display style.

Why does 𜹣 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
