separated block sextant-46

Separated Sextant Tile 46

𜹸 is a tiny Teletext-style mosaic tile: two filled blocks sit down its right side, with a gap between them. Teletext used tiles like this to build simple pictures alongside text. Those gaps are deliberate; they mark the separated mosaic style.

What 𜹸 means

The 4 and 6 mark the filled positions: middle-right and lower-right.

A sextant here is a 2×3 grid inside a character cell. In a Teletext mosaic, the six numbered positions work as small blocks that can combine into simple pictures.

Why are the blocks separated?

The gaps are a deliberate Teletext display style.

Britain’s first Teletext specification appeared in October 1974. Its 1976 version defines six-cell graphics for adding simple pictures to the same fixed grid as text. Teletext could show each pattern with touching cells or with background-colored gaps; 𜹸 preserves the separated appearance as a character in its own right.

A practical graphics tile; its meaning lies in the six-cell pattern.

Can a missing glyph change which character this is?
