What ཙ means
It is the Tibetan consonant tsa, not a complete word. Wylie and Extended Wylie (EWTS) input methods use the Latin sequence tsa for this letter.
A bare Tibetan consonant has an inherent a; a vowel sign can change it. Other consonants can also stack with it, so the whole syllable determines how ཙ reads.
Why can Tibetan spelling outlast speech?
Traditional spelling can preserve an older written form after speech shifts. Formal Tibetan writing is attested in the 630s–640s, when the court adapted North Indian writing models for Buddhist translation and Sanskrit, a classical language of India.
In the earliest known Dunhuang transcriptions, Tibetan tsa, tsha, and dza render Sanskrit ca, cha, and ja. Their shapes connect to Indic forms through a right-side mark called tsa-phru.
Modern Lhasa descriptions use tsa as the label. Tibetan script is also used for Dzongkha and other Himalayan languages.
What does it mean when someone sends ཙ?
Sent alone, it names a letter, not a message. In Tibetan text, read the syllable around ཙ; mantras and Sanskrit passages can use extended consonant stacks.
A neutral Tibetan consonant; its reading depends on the surrounding syllable.

Questions people ask
1Why does Tibetan tsa look different in fonts?
Tibetan has formal dbu-can and flowing dbu-med writing styles, which shape letters differently. OpenType Tibetan shaping may narrow the i-vowel sign above ཙ to clear its right-side tick.
