How did Duployan branch beyond French?
Duployan became a family of language adaptations. Émile Duployé published his French shorthand in 1860 to record speech quickly. Later inventories were adapted for English, German, Spanish and Romanian. In British Columbia, Jean-Marie Le Jeune adapted related Chinook writing for Chinook Jargon, a shared regional language, and Indigenous languages such as Okanagan, Lillooet, Shuswap and North Thompson. The Kamloops Wawa newsletter printed it from 1891–1923.
