What 𘯩 means
It is a sound sign; references transcribe it as “sh” or “shï.”
These are scholarly transcriptions, not English word meanings. Keep the spelling used by your source.
Why was Khitan small script developed?
Created around 925 to write Khitan, the small script was one of two systems used alongside Khitan Large Script. Sound signs like this one usually joined in compact word clusters; word signs could stand alone. Both served Khitan during the Liao era. The small script is said to draw on the Uyghur writing system, though surviving forms look different. Most surviving examples are inscriptions on stones buried with Khitan rulers and aristocrats.
A font may draw 𘯩 but fail to join neighboring signs into a word cluster. Use a Khitan font with cluster support for the joined layout.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘯩 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
