Tangut Component-235

235/768

For direct Tangut input, Rime Xunpin accepts component entry, Latin-letter sound reconstructions, strokes, or four-corner codes. 𘣪 is a structural piece used to describe and index full Tangut characters, not a word to read alone. If it appears as a box, the selected font likely lacks Tangut coverage.

What 𘣪 means

Use a Tangut input method such as Rime Xunpin. It accepts Latin-letter sound reconstructions, strokes, codes based on a character’s four corners, or component input.

This is a structural component: scholars use parts like 𘣪 to describe and index full Tangut characters. Some Tangut references call these parts radicals—components used to organize dictionary entries. A digital index to Li Fanwen’s Tangut dictionary classifies them by position and pairs headings 235 and 236, so 235 is an index label, not a gloss. The full character carries the reading and meaning.

The Tangut script was commissioned in 1036 by Li Yuanhao, ruler of Western Xia, a Tangut-led kingdom, and developed by Yeli Renrong and other scholars. It drew inspiration from Chinese writing and followed the earlier Khitan script, used by the Khitan people, yet remained distinct. It served state identity and Buddhist scripture; surviving texts include translations of Chinese and Tibetan Buddhist works, classics, military writing, and literature.

Why does this glyph show as a box?

Your font may lack Tangut coverage. The Noto Serif Tangut documentation lists support for Tangut Components; older scholarly indexes also name Mojikyo and BabelStone fonts. Fonts can draw the same character with different strokes. A missing-glyph box means the selected font cannot display it.

Scholarly: its natural home is character analysis and dictionary indexing.

Treat 235 as an index label, not a translation.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘣪 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut Components block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
