What 𜳒 means

It supplied ready-made game art for the character-based screen.

A 1983 account of the European MZ-700 lists chess pieces among its built-in game graphics. The character-set map places 𜳒 at MZ (EU Alt) EA, the code for this tile in the computer’s second display set.

On the 1983 MZ-700, this alternate-set character could not be typed directly; a program selected it for a screen cell. A 2021 Unicode proposal sought to preserve the set for conversion to and from old computer text.

Why does 𜳒 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
