What ꁙ means
ꁙ writes the Liangshan Yi syllable “bbip.”
“Bbip” is the Latin-letter romanization for the syllable, not an English translation; its final p marks a low-falling tone, with the voice starting low and dropping. The spelling identifies the Yi syllable but does not tell an English-only reader what it means in Yi.
A bronze bell inscription from 1485 is the earliest surviving example commonly cited. Some stone and bronze objects attributed to the Han period are said to be older, though that dating is uncertain. Older Yi forms were used by bimo, Yi ritual specialists, for religious, magical, medical, and genealogical texts. The Liangshan standard was devised in 1974 and promulgated in 1980 to support wider literacy.

Questions people ask
1Why does ꁙ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
