What 𘬘 means
It represents a reconstructed sound, not a word translation. Kane’s 2009 index gives sỏ as a proposed value. Khitan sound signs usually join into word clusters; plain text shows them separately, while supported layouts can group them horizontally or vertically.
When was Khitan small script created?
Tradition dates it around 925; surviving evidence is later.
The Liao account credits Yelü Diela and says Uyghur writing inspired the script. A 2026 reappraisal disputes that date: the earliest securely dated surviving text is the 1051 tomb inscription for Wugulin Taishi, and the author argues the script may have been systematized later for administration. Khitan Small Script stood beside a distinct Large Script; both drew on Chinese-character structures. Jurchen writing in the Jin era later adapted Khitan models. Surviving examples are chiefly tomb inscriptions, monuments, and objects.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘬘 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
