What 𘭠 means
Kane’s 2009 index gives this form no proposed reading. That does not prove no reading exists. Khitan Small Script can use one sign for a whole word or combine sound signs into word-sized clusters; inscriptions help show which role a sign has.
How did Khitan Small Script develop?
The usual account credits Yelü Diela with its creation. It dates the script to around 925, with Chinese character forms and reportedly the Uyghur script as models. A 2026 study argues it was systematized later; the earliest securely dated surviving epitaph is from 1051. Jurchen rulers of Jin modeled their own scripts on both Khitan systems; a 1191 edict ended official Khitan-script use.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘭠 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
